Bios
Founded by Jay Hix Jones and Marcus Goodwin, Unvarnished Media is built by two veteran unscripted storytellers with decades of combined experience. Their work includes extensive experience on the award-winning, Emmy nominated Hoarders and a range of nationally recognized unscripted and scripted productions, bringing together deep field production, story, development, and creative leadership. Together, Jones and Goodwin have produced stories for some of the biggest names in television, with a body of work spanning the networks and platforms below.
Jay Hix Jones
Jones is an award-winning television producer and storyteller with a unique, firsthand history with the Hoarders franchise. Jones began on Hoarders as a Field Producer in 2012 and, through his work and growing creative leadership, rose through the ranks to Supervising Producer and ultimately Executive Producer of Hoarders: Where Are They Now. Across 10 seasons, he worked closely with the franchise’s cast, experts, families, and creative teams, helping shape some of its most compelling stories of struggle, hope, and transformation. His deep understanding of the people, storytelling, and production infrastructure behind the franchise now informs a new creative vision with House of Hoards: Family Reckoning, expanding the focus beyond the hoard itself to the families, relationships, and unresolved issues buried beneath it. Jones has reached over 100 million viewers across more than 100 hours of programming, and doesn't look to be slowing down anytime soon. Marcus Goodwin
Marcus Goodwin is an award-winning writer and producer whose career spans scripted and unscripted television in the UK and United States. He began in London, writing for two highly regarded BBC television series before making the transition to American television, where he found his calling in producing stories about real people and the challenges they face.
Goodwin became a longtime writer and producer on the award-winning, Emmy-nominated Hoarders, helping shape emotionally complex stories centered on families, relationships, and the realities behind extreme hoarding. His experience spans story development, field producing, writing, casting, and working closely with subjects and production teams to uncover authentic, compelling narratives. That combination of scripted storytelling and real-world production has become the foundation of his work. Goodwin brings a writer's understanding of character and structure together with a producer's instinct for finding the human story inside extraordinary circumstances. At Unvarnished Media, he continues to develop and produce character-driven television that is emotionally honest, visually compelling and built to connect with audiences.
